Afterall, most nutrients require the correct balance of another nutrient for proper absorption. For example, vitamin E does little good unless the proper balance of zinc is included for complete absorption. Vitamin E, D and Calcium are not isolated cases where another nutrient is required for proper absorption. This is very common and it requires a scientifically advanced full-spectrum formulation to yield the best results. As you have come to expect from all products in the SuVida line, our Mutiple Vitamin and Mineral formulation yields superior full-spectrum absorption. It should also be noted that many of the "Recommended Daily Values" as outline by the FDA are out dated (although they still provide a good guideline for many). However, some essential nutrients don't even have a Recommended Daily Value. While other Daily Values have been greatly modified by experts over the past 50 years. And in the case of some nutrients such as vitamin A, it is important to not take too much. SuVida is meticulous with EVERY product to obtain the most respected and up to date nutritional information as outlined be the world's most respected clinics, Universities, and Health Care Professionals. Commonly when people think of vitamin A, their first though is of good eyesight. Why? Because everyone has heard that carrots are good for your eyes and most people know that carrots are rich in vitamin A. However, in addition to the eyesight benefits, vitamin A is also important to the proper function of the immune system and for maintaining healthy skin. In addition, numerous clinical trials strongly suggest that vitamin A may provide protection against pollutants found in the environment, and that it has strong antioxidant properties as well.

Because it isn't stored in the body, you should eat foods high in vitamin C every day. The FDA recommends that we get 60 mg of vitamin C per day. It should be noted, however, that the RDA is NOT based on what is required for optimum health, says Hans Larsen in an article entitled Vitamin C: Your Ultimate Health Insurance. “The RDA is simply the amount required to avoid scurvy, the most obvious deficiency disease.” “Many experts are now realizing that the RDA of 60 mg/day is far too low to provide for optimum health and protection against disease,” says Larsen. “A team of medical researchers at the National Institutes of Health in the United States recently completed a study designed to determine the vitamin C requirements of healthy, young men. They found that an intake of 1000 mg/day was required to completely saturate the blood plasma with vitamin C. They also found that vitamin C should be taken in divided doses throughout the day as urinary excretion increases rapidly when individual doses exceed 500 mg. The researchers conclude that the RDA for vitamin C should be raised to 200 mg/day." Many estimates reveal that less than 10% of the population consume amount of vitamin C as part of their daily food intake. You will note that when you take Suvida's suggested intake of 4 multiple vitamins and minterals daily you receive 200mg of vitamin C which is over 300% of the RDA. However, in countless reasearch studies, these higher levels of vitamin C are know to be very beneficial without harmful side effects. In fact, as noted above, it is beneficial to receive as much as 1,000 mg per day for some people.
“Researchers at Tufts University and Harvard University, who studied nearly 250 women with no history of cataracts, found that those who took vitamin C supplements for at least 10 years were 77% less likely to show the initial signs of cataracts and 83% less likely to have moderate opacities than those who took no supplemental C. It's uncertain how much vitamin C is necessary to saturate eye tissues, but experts estimate it's between 150 and 250 milligrams a day. “In combination with other nutrients, vitamin C has also shown benefit in slowing the progression of age-related macular degeneration, a condition that damages the retina and can destroy vision.” |

Vitamin D is one of the only vitamins produced naturally by the body. However, in order for the body to produce vitamin D, it has to be exposed to an adequate amount of sunlight. Generally, an hour per week is enough, but surprisingly, many people are still not exposed to enough sun to produce beneficial amounts of vitamin D. Also, studies have shown that as we age, we tend to produce less vitamin D even with adequate sun exposure. These are the primary reasons why many adults have to monitor their diets to make sure they are taking in enough vitamin D. |

Vitamin E is also commonly used for increasing stamina and endurance, and for this reason many fitness enthusiasts and athletes take vitamin E on a regular basis. Vitamin E is also popular with many older people, who enjoy an increase in their overall health and vitality. Some of the foods that are highest in vitamin E include nuts, seeds and many oils. In addition, vitamin E is also present in foods as diverse as grains, spinach, seafood, beef, apples, avocados and celery. The recommended daily intake of vitamin E is 30 IU. Again, many researchers agree that the current RDA for vitamin E should be raised to at least twice what it currently is. Some researcher feel mega doses of vitamin E are helpful. However, in studies as doses exceed 1200 IU (40 times the RDA), diarrhea has occurred, and even an 800 IU dose can sometimes cause abdominal cramping and pain. Vitamin E is readily stored by the body, and therefore documented cases of deficiency are not common. Those who do suffer from vitamin E deficiency often experience fatigue, impaired fertility, gallstones and acne. |

“It is almost impossible to have a lack of only one in the group,” says Dr. Warwick Carter in his book The Complete Family Medical Guide. “If one is missing, several will usually be missing. A deficiency may cause anemia and other blood diseases. Beriberi is caused by a lack of vitamin B1, pellagra by a lack of vitamin B3, while pernicious anemia is due to a lack of vitamin B12. A lack of vitamin B6 (pyridoxine), may be an uncommon side effect of some medications (e.g. isoniazid, penicilliamine), genetic disorders and in poor nutrition. It causes epileptic-like seizures, dermatitis, mouth sores and dryness, vomiting, weakness and dizziness. The blood levels of pyridoxine can be measured to confirm the diagnosis, which is easily corrected by vitamin B6 supplements.
While many other studies suggest even more vitamin B12 is needed to make up for widespread shortages. An Australian study showed that 50 mcg, but not 10 mcg, is needed to correct most B12 deficiencies. [Journal American Geriatrics Society 50:146-51, 2002] Another study in France suggests doses as high as 250-1000 mcg may be needed to resolve most cases of vitamin B12 deficiency (also called pernicious anemia). [Clinical Lab Haematology 25: 161-66, 2003] This past year researchers in the Netherlands reported that the lowest dose of oral vitamin B12 required to normalize B12 levels is 500 micrograms, which is 200 times greater than the current US RDA. Greater health benefits were achieved with doses up to 1000 micrograms. [Archives Internal Medicine 165: 1167-72, 2005]
The problem is that an increasing number of adults have difficulty absorbing vitamin B12 from foods as they age. An estimated 10 to 30 percent of adults over 50 years of age have difficulty absorbing vitamin B12 due to declining secretion of stomach juices. As little as 1% of B12 may be absorbed in senior adults. Oftentimes seniors require B12 shots. However, a 2000 mcg oral dose of vitamin B12 has been found to be equivalent to a 1000 mcg B12 injection and would eliminate the need for doctor visits. [Blood 92: 1191-98, 1998]
Nervousness or Moodiness: All of the B-Complex vitamins are important to your body’s nervous system in one way or another. If you are experiencing a deficiency of Vitamin B-12, you may notice symptoms such as moodiness, nervousness, or even depression. Elevated Levels of Homocysteine in your blood: There is a lot of evidence that elevated levels of homocysteine is associated with elevated levels of cardiovascular disease. Vitamin B-12 along with other B vitamins, have been shown to reduce the levels of homocysteine in your blood. Your physician can test for these levels with a blood test during an office visit. Numbness and Tingling in the Fingers and Toes: Because of vitamin B-12’s importance in the nervous system, a prolonged deficiency could ultimately cause feelings of numbness or tingling in your extremities. Because this can also be a sign of neuropathy due to many different causes such as diabetes, it is important that you immediately notify your doctor if you are experiencing these symptoms. Anemia: Since vitamin B-12 is such an important part of the development of red blood cells, you may have anemia, which can be easily identified by a blood test performed at your doctor's office. Symptoms of anemia include, sluggishness, lack of energy, fatigue.
Vitamin B1 combines well with vitamin C and with other B-complex vitamins. There are no know side effects or toxicity of vitamin B1. Signs of a deficiency of vitamin B1 include irritability and fatigue, constipation and edema. In addition long term vitamin B1 deprivation can lead to an enlarged liver. Other signs can include numbness in the limbs, muscle weakness, sore muscles and forgetfulness.
As with other members of the B-complex family, riboflavin has an important role to play in he transport of oxygen and the movement of blood, and it is of particular importance when we are growing and when we are eating high levels of protein. Riboflavin combines well with other B-complex vitamins and there are no known toxicity side effects of vitamin B2. Signs of a vitamin B2 deficiency include problems with vision, sores in or near the mouth, hair loss, insomnia, dizziness, digestive problems and inflammation of the tongue and mouth.
There are no known side effect or toxicity of niacin, but flushing of the skin may occur in some people taking an excess of 100mg per day. Niacin deficiency can result in a condition known as pellagra, a condition typified by dementia, dermatitis and diarrhea. In addition, a lack of vitamin B3 can result in dizziness, fatigue and headache, as well as indigestion, insomnia, and low blood sugar.
B-6 helps balance levels of potassium and sodium in the body, and it may help to prevent cystine from being converted to the toxic element known as homocysteine. Many experts believe high levels of homocysteine has harmful effects on the heart, and pyridoxine (B-6) appears to play a protective role. Vitamin B6 combines well with vitamin C, and with other B-complex vitamins. Pyridoxine can be toxic if doses exceed 2000mg (over 100 times the amount in Suvida's Multiple vitamin and mineral). Symptoms of a pyridoxine deficiency include similar symptoms seen from deficiency of other B Vitamins including: nervousness, dizziness, irritability, osteoporosis, arthritis and insomnia. In addition, signs like an inflamed tongue and rigid nails can also be signs of vitamin B6 deficiency. |

Many people already know that getting enough folic acid is important for any women who plans to get pregnant. Folic acid has a vital role to play in the protection of growing cells, including of course the cells of a growing baby. Some of the best sources of folic acid include green vegetables, starchy vegetables, fruits, beans and liver. Folic acid combines well with vitamin B6, vitamin B12 and vitamin C and there are no known side effects or toxicity from folic acid. |

Biotin has an essential role in helping the body metabolize proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Biotin also helps the body process glucose. These roles in metabolism help the body produce energy more efficiently, which may help reduce feelings of fatigue that are caused by metabolism problems. Biotin is also very beneficial to the health of the hair, skin, and nails. Many people see a noticeable improvement in hair, skin, and nails when they begin taking a biotin supplement. Biotin also helps build and maintain muscle tissue, bone marrow, and nervous system tissue. |
